DDOL Recovers Over $1.5 Million in FLSA Overtime Case

Craig Deats and Manuel Quinto-Pozos successfully represented a group of paramedics in pursuing their claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act for overtime pay, concluding a seven-year-long dispute between the employees and their employer.
After trial in federal court, including a week-long jury trial and a damages phase tried to U.S. District Court Judge Lee Yeakel, Craig and Manuel (with the assistance of paralegal Alex Tauchman) obtained a judgment holding that the employer had mis-classified the paramedics as exempt, and recovered over $1.5 million dollars from the City. In addition, the Employer reclassified the position at issue as nonexempt and began paying overtime to all employees in the classification.
